Mother/Son Filmmaking Team Sweep KY, OR & NYC; Take Top Honors
Las Vegas, Nevada – The Dynamic Duo keeps taking the indie film world by storm.
The real-life Mother and Son filmmaking team of Jack Truman and Opal Dockery took top honors at 3 film festivals across the country last week. PHONE SEX GRANDMA, the award-winning hit cult short film about a phone sex operator in a ghost town, won BEST DIRECTOR at the Oregon Film Awards. It also returned to New York City, screening at the Chashama Film Festival.
PHONE SEX GRANDMA premiered at the 2006 Slamdance Film Festival. Since its premiere, PSG has screened at over 100 film festivals worldwide, earning rave reviews.
THE OUTHOUSE, a short film documentary about a 60 year old woman and her backyard outhouse, won BEST INNOVATIVE FILMMAKER for Truman. Premiering at the 2008 Slamdance Film Festival, OUTHOUSE has screened at over 50 fests worldwide. Slamdance gave Truman $99 to make a short film under 5 minutes.
November has been one explosive month for the real-life Mother/Son filmmaking team.
“It's refreshing. A shot in the arm”, stated Truman in press materials. “This is living proof that anyone can make a movie. No matter what. There is an audience for your film”.
Truman is a 25 year veteran of stage and screen. Dockery, a former burlesque dancer for over 20 years, is a writer and actress. The creative team tackles it all: from concept to distribution.
“Our films are designed to open people's eyes”, Truman states. “I want to make films that shock people, make them think, talk, and appreciate how different all of us are. That's what makes the world so great. That all of us are free to be different.”
